"Erdogan Turkey`s Modi"-Benyamin Benyamin opined that similar to what Modi is doing in India by using religion as a cover for his political injustices, Erdogan is doing the same in Turkey. Benyamin disagreed with Zakaria`s statement while he was conversing on an audience`s question about how both of the former President Atatürk and current President Erdogan were trying to make Turkey a secular country and they maintained its tourism sector more peaceful than ever. Zakaria, Benyamin, Sonia Rafique and A. P. M Mohammad Hanish were conversing at the Kerala Literature Festival. While Zakaria visited Turkey, he thought he was going to a religiously conservative society, but on the contrary, he was able to witness a nation where both Christian and Islamic communities live peacefully. Furthermore, he also mentioned about the pivotal part that Rumi played in the upbringing of Turkey and also commented on the fanaticism engendered by the Crusades and conflicts that once plagued the country and how now they`ve been ushering towards a golden age by overcoming these issues with secularism. He also stated that we shouldn`t be visiting Turkey for it`s landscape but for it`s history. Benyamin highlighted the way Orhan Pamuk made Tukey a better place through his mesmerising poetry. Sonia Rafeeq introduced the novel `The Architect’s Apprentice` by Turkish-British novelist Elif Shafak and her experiences while travelling in Turkey. She also glorified the admirable architecture that she witnessed there. A P M Mohammad Hanish emphasized the Historical relevance Turkey possessed as being the channel in between two continents, Asia and Europe and he also pointed out the religious harmony that Turkey possesses.The session moderated by M N Suhaib concluded with an interactive discussions among the guests and audiences.
