Political activists Mathew Kuzhalnadan, V. Vasif and M. T. Ramesh participated in the session held at Aksharam at the 7th edition of KLF to discuss over a compelling notion: `Is Media Controlling Modern Politics?` The discussion started with a concerning question on whether the current political concept is on the agenda of the media. M. T. Ramesh said that not only politics, but modern life itself is under media control. "Today the media operates in a highly biased manner", he added. The creative and respectful nature of media no longer exists and instead, it indulges in behaviours that correlate to failed ethics, such as resorting to personal insults", he said. However, Mathew Kuzhalnadan stated it correct to assume that the media is more of influencing the modern way of life, rather than controlling. Nowadays, media is all about increasing TRP ratings and also added that it is paying focused on increasing the number of shows and audiences . He also said that the media should take the initiative in bringing forth better, more creative and intelligent ideas into execution. V. Vasif opined that the media is definitely controlled by politics. He stated that the rulers of the country and the corporations are ruling the media and the people here. It was highlighted that the media does not see the problems of the people and it needs to be corrected. He also scrutinized the manner in which media is spreading the remarks made by M. T. Vasudevan Nair about the Chief Minister during KLF inauguration, apart from his remarks on central government and demonetisation being deliberately forgotten by the media. A. K. Abdul Hakeem moderated the discussion and concluded the session with a note on the maturity and wisdom of Keralites which would not give in to vain influences by certain Media segments.
